Fusion Tour Montgomery a Success!

Fusion Tour Montgomery a Success!

Hosting an event can be very unnerving because you never know what to expect. This event was especially challenging for me because I was hosting on behalf of Vernetta Freeney, CEO of Women are Gamechangers. Knowing that she was traveling to Montgomery Alabama from Houston Texas just for this event AND bringing guests from Atlanta Georgia added to the pressure.

The day turned out to be a success. The women who chose to attend left empowered and connected with other like-minded women which was the goal of the event. Thanks to everyone who came out to show their support. You are greatly appreciated. Thanks to Monique and Ms. Janice for being wonderful hostesses at Pure Artistry Literary Cafe and thanks to the panelist for sharing your knowledge with the group.

Yes, you heard me correctly!

The Fusion Tour, hosted by Women are Gamechangers, is coming to Montgomery Alabama on Saturday, October 5th.  I am pleased to be the cohost along with Founder and CEO of Women are Gamechangers, Ms. Vernetta Freeney.

What’s so special about this event?

Vernetta, an award winning blogger and master networker,  has created an event that allows women to make meaningful connections.

Don’t you hate going to events where everyone is hustling a business card or where there are so many vendors until you feel like you are in a shopping mall?  You won’t find any of that at our event.  The event has been carefully planned to allow you to get to know the women in the room so that you can create meaningful, long term, professional relationships.  You will also have a chance to hear from local business owners, such as Shekenya Calhoun, Human Resource Director of Calhoun Enterprises.  I am excited to hear her share some success secrets as well as answer your questions about how her father built a legacy and the work she and her family are doing to continue that legacy.

The theme for the Montgomery event is “Creating a Big Brand in a Small City.”  I will also be sharing tips and techniques that I have used to build my personal brand as well as strategies that I have used with my clients to help them use social media to build a brand without spending a bundle.

Are you excited?

You should be!

Register today and make plans to spend October 5 from 9am until 11am with a  group of dynamic women who are committed to helping you become successful!

[Book Review] Frank’s Roadmap to Career Success by Frank T. Mitchell

It is hard to believe that I have been out of college for almost thirteen years.  During that time, I have witnessed a tremendous change in how people are becoming employed.  Gone are the days of going to a place and placing an application then waiting for someone to contact you.  With the increased use of the internet, employers began soliciting online resumes and it was rare to ever hear from them again.  Now with the surge in use of social media, it’s all about networking and creating relationships before, after and during the hiring process.

Navigating the waters of a career transition for a seasoned professional or starting a career for a recent college graduate can seem like an almost impossible task these days.  It could become so frustrating that some might consider giving up and just taking whatever comes along.

In “Frank’s Roadmap to Career Success”, Frank T. Mitchell offers some brilliant alternatives to giving up and/or settling.  Frank offers strategies that you can begin to implement today that will help you to build the types of relationships that will lead to future opportunities.  Frank not only discusses how to build these relationships but he also provides helpful tips on

  • using social media as one of your tools during a job search
  • creating an effective resume
  • building a career support team
  • acing the interview then negotiating the offer
  • establishing your value within an organization

I recommend this book to anyone that is a part of the work force, no matter what stage of your career that you are in.  Frank, not only prepares those who are currently looking for a job, but also those who may have a position but want to be prepared in case they find themselves seeking new opportunities.  Frank encourages you to be proactive about seeking these opportunities and not waiting until the need arises.  Pick up this book and share with those in your network.  It is filled with invaluable advice.

It also makes a great graduation gift 😉

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Experts to Empower and Educate Women Entrepreneurs at Atlanta Banquet Event

On September 12, 2011, from 12- 2 P.M., WAHMs WIN will be hosting its first annual networking and fundraiser event, “Your Exchange Brings Your Change: Understanding the Power of Partnering to Eliminate Weakness.” The event will provide an intimate networking atmosphere and raise funds for the Atlanta Chapter of the community-benefit organization.

The keynote speaker for this event is Cheryl Wood, a highly regarded author, speaker and mom entrepreneur who empowers and equips women to take risks, overcome feats and eliminate self-imposed barriers in order to live “Fearless, Focused and Fulfilled.” Additionally, she is the 2011 winner of Elevator Pitch Olympics from FraserNET Conference. Guests will also have the pleasure of hearing from a panel of women business experts from the WAHMs WIN Virtual Village. The topic will be “Converting Your Business Relationships– How to Effectively, Consistently Turn Your Fans or Followers to Loyal Customers or Clients.” The panel is the finale of a free series of expert calls WAHMs WIN has held throughout August.

The 5-star green restaurant chosen for this event is The Feed Store Restaurant, located in the historic College Park business district, near the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. This location has historical significance to WAHMs WIN because the ancestral owner was a “founding mother” of the second women’s college in the U.S., Cox College, which happened to be located about a block away from The Feed Store Restaurant. Because the main goal of WAHMs WIN is to educate and empower women, this connection is very important.

The organization recommends that guests use the green MARTA public transit system as an inexpensive, low-carbon footprint option for attending this event since it is just across the street from one of the main transit stations. Remember, “Green is the new black for your business budget.”

WAHMs WIN would be delighted and honored to have you and your plus one be a guest for this highly empowering networking luncheon to help launch the Atlanta chapter for the WAHMs WIN community-benefit organization. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit www.wahmswin.org/
