Recently, I had the pleasure of hearing a young man named Christopher Coleman speak at an event. Initially, the crowd was uncertain about the message this paraplegic would bring the group and you could see it on their faces as he rolled his wheelchair on stage. As is typical with most people who have little to no control of their extremities, Christopher’s speech was at times hard to comprehend; however, when he told his story of being born, pronounced dead and surviving without oxygen for fifteen minutes then his mother being told that he would be no more than a vegetable yet he now has a college degree and travels the world as an author and motivational speaker; Christopher awakened the audience and had everyone on their feet. He then challenged the audience by asking, “What’s your excuse?”
Although this young man is bound to a wheelchair for the rest of his life, will never walk or speak well, he has not allowed it to stop him from achieving his goals. The crowd was in tears as he testified that only by God’s grace and mercy is he able to accomplish all of the things that he has. He confessed that at times he has also doubted that he would be able to do some of the things that he felt called to do but God told him, “I have a plan for your life.”
If ever given the chance to see Christopher’s presentation, I challenge you to do so because he had the entire crowd in tears. Young people throughout the building realized that if this man, this man who no one ever imagined would do anything but waste away in a bed, could not only rise to the challenge of the calling God placed on his life but also go out into the world and excel… What was their excuse?
Success Secret #37…. you have no excuses. The only limitations that we have in life are those that we place on ourselves. If you think you can or that you can’t; you are correct. The only thing stopping you from being as great as you ever imagined yourself being is you. Once you get out of your own way, the sky is the limit.
