Did Adam and Eve have belly buttons?

A friend and I were talking about God and our faiths and he brought up this interesting question: Did Adam and Eve have belly buttons?

It is a scientific fact that our belly buttons are used to transfer nutrients from the mother to the child while he/she is in the womb.  No other uses for the hole in our tummies have been found so it makes you wonder, did Adam and Eve have belly buttons?  If so, why or why not?

  1. haah wow this is an interesting thing to think about conceptually! It is also that one which blurs the lines between science and religion. I mean God made man in his image, so the fact that we have a belly button today should mean that Adam and Eve had one to…unless you believe that we could evolve from what God initially made us as…then the question is, if evolution was a part of God’s plan too, why didn’t he just have us be in the form he already knew he wanted us to be in post-evolving?

Its a world in which I only half understand. But what I do know is when I pray, they are answered, and the spirit of God is in this vessel I call a human body 🙂
